What can YOU do working from home

We'll take it you've already tried the various work from home ads, considered envelope stuffing, telephone answering services etc., and have had your baptism of fire sending off cheques for £15, or £50, to some millionaire who's promised to share his secrets with you.

And you've figured that none of that works. Well, you've come to the one place on the net that won't ask you for a penny to explain how you can make a million.

If you belong to the generation that does not believe that the world owes you a living, and you're willing to work for your daily bread, why work for somebody else? Here's a collection of ideas of what you can do at home working for YOU.

1. Running a website or a web based business. No! You do not need to be an expert in anything web related. You don't even need to know a lot about computers or how to build/manage websites. The trick is to identify what exactly you are good at, what you like doing, and open your mind to ways you can make money out of it. Or find someone who's already done it and buy him out. Buying a website.

2. Writing articles for other websites. Again, no special skills required. You don't need to be a published author, you don't even need to be good at writing! You can be stumped by spelling, perplexed by punctuations, and absolutely grim at Grammar but you can still make a living by writing (Yes, it's not all articles. There's demand for things like putting together useful resources, browsing through various websites in a particular niche and compiling a list of the best ones, collecting phone numbers off various sites in a particular industry and building a directory, and various other opportunities that don't require a PhD in English Lit).

3. Buying and selling products you are familiar with on auction websites like eBay and QXL - from doll houses to motorcycle spares.

4. Converting your hobbies or skills into a business from home (which may or may not use the internet). Some examples:

- Genealogy

- Pet Grooming/Minding

- Pottery/Painting/Other Craft Work/Teaching Craft Classes

- Knitting, Needlework, Alteration Services

- Baking/Cooking/Teaching Cooking

- Recording/Editing/Archiving of Photos/Music/Video

- Child Care, Teaching/Tutoring

- Reading (proofreading)

- Languages (translating)

Put your hobby/skill to work for you....

5. Other local opportunities: Apart from hobbies and skills there may be openings in your local area for a particular type of service that is not currently being met. And, the laws of supply and demand dictate that if there's no competition people are likely to be willing to pay you a high price for your services. Some ideas:

- House/Office Cleaning

- House Minding

- Door to door leaflet/local paper/coupon distribution

- Window Cleaning

6. Virtual Assistant opportunities: A VA is described as an independent entrepreneur providing administrative,
creative and/or technical services from the comfort of their own homes/home-offices. There are several organisations on the web catering for and advising VAs.

Earn money from home - the tools you need

• Open FREE Internet banking accounts to receive payment.

Generally, the Internet trades in US dollars wherever you are in the world and payment through an online service is a more economic way of exchanging dollars to your local currency than paying in a cheque to your bank. Many affiliate programs require you to have an online account from one of the major services so it is prudent to join all three. You can also pay on line for services like web site hosting and purchases at auctions for instance. They are free to join.

Join PayPal here, one of the biggest. You will need to give credit card details - see here.

E-gold is another popular payment service, especially with investment programs, though more difficult to fund. Your new e-gold account can be funded using the following agents:
londongoldexchange.com accepts credit cards
icegold.com - bank wire transfer
eurogoldsales.com
paybygold.com
goldex.net - accepts credit cards
goldnow.st
goldage.net
cambist.net
anygoldnow.com
getgold.ws

Stormpay seems to be in a state of flux at present and best avoided.
• Disposable email addresses.

Get a free email address from Inbox to use and keep your main address for private use and spam free(-er!). They have recently increased your space to 2Gb or 5Gb, depending on your country, but it still pays to keep your Inbox tidy. Good housekeeping!
Make a folder called, say, 'Keep', and put in there all emails with your sign-up details for programs you have joined. It will be easier for you to keep your Inbox clear and avoid deleting important information by mistake.

Zwallet, a previous choice, seems to have stopped working for me and others.
• Keep your copy of Windows clean.

You will be visiting a huge number of websites so will pick up a huge number of cookies, temporary files, registry entries, etc.
Windows is not very good at keeping itself clean so a regular session to keep Windows in 'top tune' will make the web earning experience safer, easier and faster.
I use and recommend WinOptimizer which does the job well (and a few other jobs beside). It's easy to download and install and works 'straight out of the tin'.
• An 'always online' connection to the Internet

If you intend to earn money on the Internet you will be spending some time on-line. It will pay you to keep your overheads down. Go here for info on Free ISPs in the USA and UK unlimited phone connection for only £9.99 per month with no ties. If you log on to the Internet in the UK for more than about 150 minutes a week then it will pay you to sign up for an unlimited connection where your local phone call costs are included. Broadband/Cable is now more commonly available and makes 'always online' surfing magic!
• A dedicated credit card for the Internet

Get another credit card for internet use only and keep the limit low. Using plastic online is in fact safer than using it in a restaurant but it helps to keep your online finances separate, so check with your existing card supplier for a second account or go to this page for detailed information

Ways to make money on the Internet

I'm talking small, but real money to start with - not the ' $1000+ in a week ' scams.

First, you need some 'tools'.

An 'always online' connection to the Internet.
A dedicated credit card for the Internet.
Open FREE Internet banking accounts to receive payment.
Dedicated email addresses.

Second, you need some income.

High yield investment programs (HYIP) return high yields on your investment but are also high risk and of limited duration. Get in early with a sum you can afford to loose and earn 20% daily for a few days or 2% daily for a few weeks/months. Most use e-gold as a 'currency' so you will need to open a free account here... To help in deciding which programs to invest in and when to pull out I have kept the statistics of several current sites and also of sites that have closed. This is a very volatile market but can be very profitable and exciting.

Trickle income, like these sites below, build up a bank balance and give you confidence

MyLot is a great program for people who like to chat and earn a few dollars a day at the same time! The range of subjects is enormous and from all over the world. Upload pictures from your computer, list your passions and other features. But beware - this program can become infectious!! Payment is by PayPal so you will need to get a free PayPal account . If you can't get PayPal in your country then they will pay by E-gold.

BlueBayptr is a great PTS ( paid to search ), PTC ( paid to click ) PTJ (paid to join or sign up) and PTR ( paid to read ) program and, unlike some, has a low payout threshold of $2. This amount can be quickly reached by joining other programs from the Paid to Signup section, searching on links in your Inbox and clicking on banners in the Paid to Click area. I earn about $7 a month on my own searches. Payment is by PayPal so you will need to get a free PayPal account. If you don't do proper searches (see below) then you will not be sent many paid links.

Here is a tutorial on how to make a valid search . It will take longer than the 40 seconds shown to finish loading three pages but if the advertiser doesn't get paid, you wont get the links in the future.

Rpoints is aimed at UK/Euro surfers comparing prices of goods.

An example of how Rpoints worked to save me 36% off my UK car insurance is here...
Just to show that you can save money and make money using Rpoints.

You can buy almost anything at the best retail price and then get an added discount with Rpoints. Go to the page called 'recurring' where comparing prices with Kelkoo and others earns about 2p to 6p a click up to a max of about £1 a day. Ultra-cautious about awarding points, Rpoints take a week or more to check, then credit, your points and then a month or more to validate them before you can cash in. A good forum explains all this. But, once the ball is rolling and you're clicking every day, the cash rolls into PayPal at £5 minimum a time and in £sterling too so you can have dollar and sterling PayPal accounts to save on exchange rates.

Higher Payouts.

Normally I avoid very high payout programs where it sometimes takes a year to reach the minimum by which time the site may have vanished!

You WILL get paid with these programs; about $35 to $50 a month for just these programs and there are dozens more to choose from. Join up, add to your favourites or put an icon on your desktop by dragging on a links page for each program and visit the sites at intervals through the day and earn a bit each time. It soon adds up.

TIPS -

1. Write the address and log-in details for each site in the back of your diary. It is easy to forget your user name and password and you can continue to earn money on another pc when away from home.

2. Get into the habit of regular visits. Most sites will cancel your account if you don't make use of it and any money earned will be lost.

Third, make a web site of your own and get advertisers on it.

The final group of earning programs can be placed on your own web site.
First you need a website with content interesting enough to attract visitors.
Think of a subject that you know a lot about - you, your family, your job, your hobby - whatever it is, focus on it and provide detailed information; facts, figures. Try to make your web site the definitive source of information on your chosen subject.

With a web site designed you need a domain name and a hosting service. It is like an address to the house where your web site lives. I use Easily to buy my domain names and Cirtex to host them, both companies give excellent service and support.

Promote your website using the points earned from working the PTS, PTR and PTC you joined above in section two.

Once you have a web site with solid content you have a 'product' to sell. Many of the top programs will not accept you as an affiliate unless you have a web site of substance.

The star payer is Google AdSense. They pay for clicks and pay very well and cleverly match their ads to the content of your page. They are choosey about the sites that can join and demand a reasonable standard of content. Sign up for AdSense. here. If you have a busy website you will earn good money with AdSense.

A good affiliate scheme is TradeDoubler . where you can join up for free to any of dozens of schemes under one 'roof' . All affiliate schemes have a minimum payout limit of around $50 so grouping schemes together as with TradeDoubler . [aimed at European web sites] and Commission Junction [aimed at North America but covering the world] means that you can get a cheque earlier.
Lots of companies would love you to join them as an affiliate and will pay you a commission when your visitors buy some of their products. It makes sense to join up with companies compatible with your site. Amazon sell a lot more than just books now and pay 5% to 7.5% commission by targeting specific books with a link from your site.

Bravenet has a lot of free goodies to add to your web site to attract more visitors and can help in setting up and hosting a web site. They also offer 50mb of free space on their servers to store your password protected back-up files and sensitive data.

Slide or Glide In ads are the latest medium and build income fast from your web site. I use GlideNetwork. The small ad windows load onto your page for 15 seconds and then automatically disappear. Rates vary but pay for CPC and CPM with a payout limit of >$5.00 to Paypal. Not affected by popup killers as yet so impressions are good.

Pop-up windows are better selling tools than banners and PopupTraffic.com will pay you $3 to $4/1000 impressions depending on whether the popup is in front, behind or on exit or all three for $11/1000, the choice is yours. This is the best you will get on the net and they pay monthly without fail. Popup killer browsers will reduce your income but they have introduced a new 'layer' glide in ad when meeting a popup blocker that pays $3 cpm. A busy site will still earn more than the $25 minimum for a cheque to be sent each month.

Banner advertisements, love 'em or hate 'em, are part of the Net. Place these standard sized banners from AdBrite on your page and earn up to $1/1000 impressions depending on validity of visitor. Note that these are impressions or CPM rates, your visitor just has to see them, they do not have to click on the ads or buy anything. That is why the rates are lower than ' pay per click ' banners. AdBrite pay out monthly by cheque for earnings over $10 and pay me regularly.

Remember, these are all free to join; you have no outgoings other than your normal internet connection which you have anyway. To be perfectly frank, the only downside to these deals is that it takes up your time to organise the links, and your browser and/or web site will run a bit slower while advertising banners load.

The Internet is fast changing - please let us know if a good deal comes along or if you find a crooked deal; contact simetric.co.uk and we will check it out and give it an unbiased opinion.

Advertising Terminology Explained

There are many different types of advertising and it can get a little confusing as a webmaster new to the advertising side of things. Hopefully this A-Z guide to online advertising terms can help point you in the right direction!

Above The Fold - That part of the page visible without any scrolling. Advertising above the fold naturally gets more attention.

Ad Copy - The text used for an advertising campaign. Some advertisers provide their own and insist you only use that for your website placement and newsletter campaigns, most are more flexible.

Adsense - A term which I have been asked to explain before. Basically, Adsense is a text advertising service provided by the search engine giant Google. Adsense can be incorporated into a web page to provide instant text advertising dynamically related to the page contents.

Advertiser - The company an affiliate joins. They provide the advertising for you to show on your website. Amazon is an advertiser, you become a published when you decide to join them and show their ads on your site.

Affiliate - When you partner with an advertiser you become an affiliate, or basically someone who is then able to display that company's advertising on your website or in your newsletters. Affiliates earn commissions for sales, clicks, leads etc. related to those advertising campaigns.

Affiliate Program - A program ran by a company which allows website owners to register their interest and promote the company for a commission of some kind.

Banner - Banner advertising is what web users are most familiar with. Banners are the flashing or static advertising images of varying sizes with the standard is 468x60. Banners are one of the least effective forms of advertising on their own, but can be combined with text descriptions and other inventive ways of drawing attention to them which can increase effectiveness significantly.

Button - A form of banner advertising, usually smaller in the 120x60 pixel range but sizes can vary to include micro-bars which are around half that size again.

Click - Recorded by the affiliate tracking software whenever someone clicks on a banner, text link etc. associated with an advertising campaign. Each click usually deposits a cookie on the system of the clicker.

COA - Cost Of Acquisition. The monetary outlay to achieve a sale, for example, spend $100 and receive 10 sales, then the COA is $10 per sale.

Conversions - Usually a percentage figure which applies to the number of people who click thorugh on an advert compared to the number who actually go through with a transaction leading to a commission being earned. 1000 clicks and 1 sale is a conversion rate of 0.1%...and probably a campaign to drop unless it's a very high paying commission.

Cookies - Cookies, in the context of affiliate marketing, are used to track leads, sales etc. so that the affiliate is credited for promoting the program. Cookies are harmless and can be set to last for a single session or much longer, so it is possible to earn for a sale made many months down the line even if the visitor actually clicked the link weeks ago.

CPA - Cost Per Action. How much the advertiser pays for an action performed which may be a simple click, signing up for a newsletter, taking a poll etc.

CPC - Cost Per Click. Every click an advertisers' ad receives costs them x amount. For example, a $1 CPC would cost the advertiser $1 for every click received.

CPM - Cost Per Thousand. Typically refers to the cost for something like a thousand email ads to be sent out, or a thousand banner impressions to be shown eg $100 CPM means it costs $100 for one thousand whatevers.

CTR - Click Through Rate. A percentile figure based on the number of clicks an ad receives compared to the number of times it has been seen. For example a banner which has been shown 1000 times and been clicked 10 times has a CTR of 1%. used to gauge the effectiveness of a campaign and as an affiliate you should analyse this kind of thing regularly so you can identify the best performing ads.

Demographics - You may see this mentioned. It applies to the break down of your audience in terms of age, race, gender etc. - basically, the type of person you can advertise to - knowing your audience is key to successful affiliate advertising.

Ezine or E-zine - An email newsletter. Think Electronic Magazine.

Fly In - These are similar to pop-ups but slide in from an off-screen location to cover a portion of the active window. Many fly ins, or slide ins as they are also known, are immune to pop-up killing software so can be very effective. Again, they annoy visitors so whether you want to use them or not is a choice you have to make.

Hits - Not to be confused with visits. Hits are not visitors, one visitor can generate several hits per visit because hits refer to every graphic on the page as well as the page itself. Visits is what you want to look at in your web site logs if you are ever asked to tell an advertiser or affiliate network how many people visit your site each month.

HTML Newsletter - An email which looks like a webpage rather than just plain text. Some email accounts can not receive emails like this.

Impressions - Applies to the number of times an ad is seen by total visitors. 1000 visits to a page results in 1000 impressions of a banner. Some affiliate programs pay a set fee per impression although this fee is usually pretty low since banner advertising is perceived as been less effective. Really only worth bothering with if you can drive thousands of visitors to your site daily...and generally, auto-surf programs are prohibited if you have dabbled with those in the past!

Leads - Some advertisers like to pay affiliates on a per lead basis. Pay per lead affiliates earn a set figure every time someone clicks a banner or otherwise follows one of their affiliate links and performs a specified action on the advertiser website. Typically, this is not a purchase but something like signing up for a newsletter, requesting a quote, becoming a member of the site, that kind of thing.

Merchant - Another name for advertiser.

Opt-In Email - A newsletter which a user has requested to receive. Not spam in other words. Double Opt In email lists are most frequently used now and are a very good advertising medium.

Pop-Up - An advertising window which appears over the site being visited. These tend to be a more effective form of advertising than banners because they are hard to ignore, but at the same time many internet users use pop-up killing software to stop them being shown and others profess to avoiding websites which use them. You need to decide whether potentially antagonising your visitors is worth the extra revenue a pop-up can generate.

Pop-Under - Less annoying than a pop-under, these are partial or full window advertising which appear under the active window thus not interfering with a users' surfing experience directly. Indirectly, they can slow down page loads and are still killed by pop-up killing software and still antagonise visitors but are effective.

PPC - Also known as "Pay Per Click", this refers to a type of advertising where, as an affiliate, you earn a set figure every time a visitor to the site clicks on one of your banners or text links. When affiliating with companies, this is usually offered in conjunction with a lead/sale bonus rather than a stand-alone offer. If you can provide search results on your website, then many search engines offer affiliate schemes when PPC advertising can prove lucrative to an affiliate.

PPL - Pay Per Lead. See Leads.

PPS - Pay Per Sale. See Sales.

Publisher - YOU. The affiliate who shows the advertising on their website or newsletter is a publisher.

ROI - Return On Investment. The montary return for a specific campaign. Eg. a campaign costs $100, it generates $150 in sales commission, the ROI is $50.

Sales - When one of your visitors clicks on a banner, text link etc. and makes a purchase from the advertiser's company, you earn a commission percentage of the total sale. Individual advertisers have different commission percentage levels and additional terms but thats basically what Sales stands for in the context of affiliate marketing.

Skyscraper - a large vertical banner which usually appears down the side of the page.

Text Ad - Usually an email newsletter or plain text advertising on a website. No graphics.

Text Links - A text link is possibly the most effective form of advertising there is. Incorporate an advertising text link into your general page structure and not only is the reader's eye drawn to it by default, but you can describe the offer in a way which appeals directly to your visitors and the chances are, they will not even realise they are being advertised to.

Some Top Affiliate Companies

There is plenty of choice these days when it comes to finding an affiliate network to partner with. My advice on choosing which to partner with is simple - choose them ALL! Why? Simply because there are different companies partnered with different sites. You might find Disney on one site, Kids Network on another and Toys R Us on a third. All would be extremely relevant to a site aimed at children but if you just joined one or two networks, you would miss out on the prime affiliate opportunities provided by the other two. Even if there are no companies of interest on a network today, that can change tomorrow as new ones join and as a member of that site, you will be kept informed for when they do.

Others Running Their Own Affiliate Programs

There are still a large number of companies running their own programs using their own affiliate tracking software. There are harder to manage than those which use affiliate networks and disputes will be handled between the two of you. Still, if you can't find the companies you want on any of the networks then these are some of the top alternatives.

Amazon
All Posters
eBay

Still looking? Here's a tip. If you are looking for a particular type of affiliate program to partner with then hit your favourite search engines with search terms like "*keyword* affiliate" and variations of that. For example, say you have a webpage devoted to your collection of collectable frogs and are looking to partner with a shopping site which sells colectable frogs, porcelain frog miniatures etc. Key in things like "frogs affiliate" or "collectables affiliate program"...that kind of thing.

Why Choose An Affiliate Network Over a Single Publisher Agreement?

You might wonder what the advantages are of joining a large affiliate network as a publisher. In fact there are many, and you will probably find more when you join. The most important for me has simply been:

a) Convenience - all my affiliate advertising partners in 5-10 places as opposed to 200 places which makes it far easier to keep track of accounts.

b) Statistics - it is invaluable as a publisher to be able to see your publish statistics. An affiliate network provides a number of tools to not only keep track of sales/click ratios but also to compare like with like and see how affiliates perform across the network. Use the statistics properly and you can really boost your income!

c) Cash Flow - Make one sale a year at a low performing company and you will probably never see that money if you are engaged in a single advertiser partnership. Most companies will only cut you a cheque when you have earned x amount of cash - never pass that threshold and you have effectively earned diddly squat. With affiliate networks, your earnings are pooled into one cheque, so you will always be paid for those low performing affiliates!

d) Support - disputes are uncommon in my experience, but if you do have issue with an advertiser then they carry more weight coming from a large affiliate network than from a little ol' webmaster.

e) Heck, it's just all-around easier! I have even been contacted directly through the affiliate network by advertisers wanting exposure on my website...sure beats spending hours trawling the net to build for your own advertising partnerships!

Webmasters Make Money from Your Sites!

So you have built your site. You followed all the standard SEO tactics to receive a half decent search engine ranking. You've hit your monthly visitor targets. Now what? Well, how about you put that human traffic to work and make some money with your website!

Content is what drives the world wide web but it's advertising which supports many of those content rich information resources. Without advertising, your quality information site could end up costing you a fortune in hosting fees etc. and anyway, if you target your advertising correctly, you can not only earn yourself a few pennies but also provide your visitors with useful links to other websites related to your page topic. Everybody wins!

You may be surprised at the big name companies who are willing to let you affiliate with them and display their advertising on your sites, no matter how small or basic it is. Ultimately both partners win, the advertiser gets the broad exposure they need for their advertising campaign and you and your visitors win with additional content and that nice little pay cheque at the end of the month.

How do I find people to advertise on my site?

Finding people to advertise on a website is not as difficult or as daunting as it may initially seem. Why would it be? The more exposure the advertisers receive, the better it is for them, right? Now, finding your own advertisers can be difficult and time consuming but few do that in the online world. Chances are, even if you do find a site looking for affiliates, they will direct you to one of the places I'm about to tell you about anyway!

The simplest and by far the most popular place to find quality advertisers is to visit one of the many internet affiliate networks. These affiliate brokers are basically middlemen in the publisher/advertiser relationship. You join them as a publisher (someone who wants to find advertising to display on their websites) and big companies such as Barnes & Noble, Tesco etc. join as Advertisers (companies who want you to show their adverts on your sites!). The affiliate network simply matches like with like and all are free to join and free to use as a publisher. So, if you have a site dedicated to your collection of Green Widgets, then you'd browse through the list of Advertisers on the affiliate network and come across The Big Green Widget Company...a perfect advertiser to support your website! Within no time you will be earning sales commissions from your site visitors.

Write down your goals

People have known for years that making a list of goals is the best way to achieve them. Why is that? First, getting your goals in writing can help you clarify what you really want to do. You might find you have some important and some frivolous goals. That is OK. You’ve got space for 43 Things on your list. Not every one of them has to change the world (but save room for the ones that might).

Get Inspired

What do you want to do with your life? It is not an easy question to answer – and you shouldn’t have to answer alone. Browse 43 Things to find out what others want to do. You might find some goals you share. Click the “I want to do this” button to add a goal to your list. Got an idea for a new goal? Just type it in the text box on the homepage or at the bottom of any page on the site. Bam. Now, it’s your thing.

Share your progress

We all have stories about what we care about. Writing down your progress on a goal can help someone else learn about something you both want to do. When you see a goal you’ve achieved, click on the “I’ve done this” button and share a story about how you did it.

Advertorials from ReviewMe

The folks from ReviewMe have recently released a new ‘product line’ called Advertorials (see here). Basically, advertisers can just prepare ‘ad copy’ and offer it up to bloggers for posting ‘as is’. Bloggers can then just choose to accept (or reject) these advertorials and post them as ’sponsored posts’. No need to write or review anything. Just copy and paste. Simple, yeah?

Well, yes and no.

It’s good for advertisers because they can control the message. It’s good for bloggers who don’t want to do any work.

But, can you just imagine having to read the same advertorials in several blogs? I’m not sure how that one will work for both the advertiser and the blogger.

Domain Cash Parking

In all my online money making years, I’ve never looked in to one popular way some webpreneurs make money: Domain Cash Parking.
What is it? Basically, you buy a domain name and choose a place to ‘park’ it where you can get paid through some kind of revenue sharing system.

This is good if you own several domain names that are not being used and/or ‘under construction’. Instead of leaving these domains on their own, you can park them with a domain parking service and you can earn money by doing so.

There are several services that offer domain cash parking. And, depending on the number of domains you have, you might want to look at different services. Some cash parking services are free and some charge a fee.

If you have less than 50 domains that you wish to park, one popular service is Sedo. It has a free and a paid (Pro) version. I’ve heard some good reports about Sedo, but haven’t really had a first hand experience.

Another popular service is called Parked. A couple of other options: plus1.net and iMonetize.

All these also handle more than 50 domains. However, these cash parking services prefer to deal with bulk domain name parking (50+): Active Audience and Traffic Z.

How much money can people make with domain cash parking? It depends. Some people have reported earnings of a few cents to earning $50+ a week per domain name.

If you have experience in domain cash parking, please let us know what you think about it and recommend your favourite service.

Just Make Money Online

* … a blog is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. In truth, though, most people value blogs based on what they earn. Typically, 10-20 times earnings is what most blogs are “worth”. However, that can go up or down depending on a variety of factors (such as what would happen if the owner stopped writing, how many income streams there are, how much traffic growth there is, how many subscribers to the feed there are, etc).

Jeremy Wright On Weblogs, Professional Blogging and Buying/Selling Blogs
* … selling your blog is hard. It’s hard on you emotionally. It can be a roller coaster ride and at the end of it, you may not get very much money for your hard work. Unless you are writing blogs specifically to sell them (ie: built to flip), it is unlikely that you will earn decent money from selling your blog.
* Anyone should think long and hard before buying a blog but, if they are willing to put in the work it can be incredibly rewarding personally and from a business standpoint.
* … be smart. Don’t just buy the biggest blog or the prettiest blog. Buy the right blog for you and your interests.
* I suspect we’ll see more and more people building blogs simply to flip them and, as the website buyer industry increases its awareness of blogs, we’ll see those blogs getting sold. I’m sure many small scale bloggers who have personal blogs will consider selling their blogs for a quick bit of cash, but most won’t sell it, or will get offers so low they’ll return to their personal blogs for the main reason they started them: for love of blogging.

While most people really don’t look at blogging as a way to make money online, the idea of ‘blogpreneurship’ is becoming increasingly popular. I guess, that’s why more and more people are looking in to it. And, one latest coverage of the topic by ‘traditional media’ is Blogging for Dosh - an article about making money online from weblogs, from Times Online. It shared anecdotes of various bloggers who are making money with their weblogs.

Make money online forum

Even with no product and no Web site, you can get paid for what and who you know
Making money online used to pretty much require you to have your own Web site, products to sell and some marketing savvy. But a new generation of dot-coms have arisen that will pay you for what you know and who you know without you having to be a web designer or a marketing genius.

But it's hard to tell hype from the real deal. I did a search on "make money online" and "making money online", and much of the information out there is just promoting various infoproducts, mostly about Internet marketing. I see why people sometimes ask, "Is anyone making money online besides Internet marketing experts?"

So I put together a list of business opportunities with legitimate companies that:

* Pay cash, not just points towards rewards or a chance to win money
* Don't require you to have your own Web domain or your own products
* Don't involve any hard-selling
* Aren't just promoting more Internet marketing
* Give a good return on your time investment

In the interest of objectivity, none of the links below are affiliate links, and none of them have paid or provided any other consideration for their presence here. These are legitimate companies with business models that allow you to get paid for a wide range of activities.

Help friends find better jobs.

Sites like H3.com and JobThread connect employers with prospective employees, many of whom are already employed and not actively job-hunting, via networking - the people who know these qualified candidates. Rewards for referring a candidate who gets hired range from a few hundred dollars to as much as $5,000 - not chump change. This is a great way to break into the recruiting business with no overhead. JobThread is intriguing in that they can set up a job board for your site or your organization (you don't even have to have a web site) at no cost to you -- no merchant account required. You determine the posting fees and split the revenue with them.

Connect suppliers with buyers.

Referral fees are a common practice in business, but they haven't been used much in online networking sites because there was no way to track them. InnerSell provides that. Vendors set the referral fees they're willing to pay, then when a deal happens, you get 70% of the referral fee.

Provide business contact information.

One of the greatest challenges in sales is getting accurate contact information about prospective customers. A growing number of services have launched in the past couple of years to help address this, but most rely on members to maintain their own contact information. Jigsaw, on the other hand, pays members to help keep information up-to-date on the people they know, not just themselves, and pays them to do so ($1 for each unique new qualifying contact you put into the system). According to Jigsaw, in their first payout after launch, the top ten point-earns each received more than $750.

Become a semi-pro reporter.

Creative Reporter is a new program from Creative Weblogging that lets just about anyone become a paid reporter/blogger. They're looking for people to create original, but non-exclusive, blog posts / articles of 250-500 words on topics including parenting, celebrities, travel, mobile technology, and more. Pay is $10 per 1,000 page views on your posts (that's excellent pay for Web writing, although there's no telling how much traffic/money you'll actually get).

Write your own blog.

You don't have to have your own Web site, or install blogging software, or even figure out how to set up the advertising. At Blogger you can set up a blog for free in less than five minutes without knowing a thing about web design, and Blogger even automates setting up Google AdSense so you can make money off your blog by displaying ads and getting paid when people click on the ads. To make even more money from it, set up an affiliate program (see below) for books, music, etc., and insert your affiliate links whenever you refer to those items. You'll have to get a lot of traffic to become a six-figure blogger, but pick an interesting topic, write well, tell all your friends, and you're off to a good start.

Making money on the internet

There are lots of ways you can make money on the Internet. You can sell things via classified ads, auctions or even create your own web site to sell your products or services. Creating and selling your own e-books is one excellent idea.

What to sell
One thing that can be sold on the web is access to information! This usually comes in the form of subscriptions to newsletters, or sales of books or reports. Check out these report titles for example. One advantage of selling information, or access to the information, is that these can be delivered electronically. This means there is no product to manufacture or ship. All you need to do is set up a mechanism for delivering the content, such as a web site, and everything (except marketing) takes care of itself.

People crave information that appeals to their basic needs and will somehow educate or enlighten them. Simply by putting your own specialized information into e-books, manuals, reports, e-zines or newsletters, you can start putting a hefty price on information you have no doubt been giving away. Makes sense doesn't it?

If you are able to communicate an idea to another person, then you've got what it takes to be an e-author. All you have to do is write down that idea (or a couple of them) and publish it as an e-book. After that, just set up a website and start marketing your product. That's it! You could be making a lot of money in no time! Sounds good right?

Marketing
Besides selling products, you can make money by selling advertising to people who want traffic sent to their web site from yours. Banner Advertising and Affiliations are two types of programs that fall into this category. These programs pay you from a few cents for each click on their banner to a large commission for the sale of their product or service.

Tools for making money on the Internet:
* Adwords and Adsense
* Affiliations
* Site Build It!
* Autoresponders
* Banner Exchanges
* E-commerce
* E-zines
* Link Exchanges
* Mailing Lists
* Merchant Accounts
* Pay Per Click Advertising
* Submission Services and Software

Adwords and Adsense
These two Google programs are very popular ways to both advertise and make money on your website. Adwords are ads that you pay for each time someone clicks on your ad. You create Adwords ads based on keywords that you think people will type into the Google search engine, when looking for your product or service. When people search for your keywords, your ad appears on the right hand side of the search listings.

Adwords also appear on websites that are signed up in the Adsense program. Each time a visitor clicks on one of these ads, the advertiser pays an amount and the website owner collects part of that amount from Google. Some website owners make thousands of dollars a month from Adsense.

Affiliations
Affiliations are a good way to make money on the Internet. There are hundreds of affiliate programs available to choose from, representing many different kinds of products. The first, and probably most famous, affiliate program was Amazon.com's. The great thing about affiliate programs is that you don't need a product, or even a web site, to make money on the Internet. Many affiliate programs give you a web site to advertise, and that's really all there is to making money this way. Promote, promote, promote!

Things you should look for in an affiliate program are reporting capabilities (so you can see what sales you've made, what commissions are due you and whether they've been paid), multi-tier programs (so you can get paid commissions on the sales of affiliates that have purchased from you), and perhaps most importantly, contact information, should a question or problem arise. High commissions are a big bonus too.

Network marketing offers the fastest and easiest way to make money today. The internet has made it possible to build a worldwide business very quickly if you have the right opportunity with the right product.

Network marketing is also known as mult-level marketing or mlm for short. This is a business model that allows you to duplicate your efforts and use time leverage to build a business of your own that can pay you residual income for years.

Affiliate marketing is a widespread method of promoting a website, in which an affiliate is rewarded for every visitor, subscriber and/or customer provided through his efforts. It is a modern variation of the practice of paying finder's-fees to individuals who introduce new clients to a business. Compensation may be made based on a certain value for each visit (Pay-per-click), registrant (Pay-per-lead), or a commission for each customer or sale (Pay-per-Sale).

There are thousands of people making millions of dollars in commissions every month selling other peoples products. This can include membership programs which allows you to get paid over and over for your efforts one time.
